The sharp downturn in the economy eventually resulted in the closing of my real estate office. Having spent 6 months looking for a new opportunity, I was grateful for the part-time position in a chiropractor’s office. I was on a 40 minute lunch break, taking advantage of the warm and windy spring day to walk around the path through the adjoining community. In the center was a playground.
I was chatting with the Lord as I walked, wondering again how all this could possibly work…how was I going to survive on the limited hours I was working, how much longer until I would see healing in my family, and the general feelings of loneliness and discouragement. I declared I was trusting Him, yet could not “see” how His plan was going to unfold. So, I asked Him if He could just give me new hope today.
On the second trip through the neighborhood, I had an urge to stop and swing for a bit at the playground. A little girl waved to me from the sliding board. She was with her Daddy. She took his hand and led him over to the swing next to me. With such sweet words, she told me that she was 3, but almost 3 ½. I showed her how to pump her legs so we could reach the sky together.
And we did. I felt free and like a little girl myself.
Soon, it was time for me to get back to the office. Before I left, she asked my name…
“My name is Marti, but my grandkids call me Grandma MJ. What is your name?”
“My name is Hope.”
And so it was that at the very moment I needed it, He sent me “new” Hope.
On a swing.
